Includes all of Basic Psychological Evaluation, plus:
Along with my work with young adults and their families, dealing with a myriad of mental health and substance abuse problems, I maintained my private practice. I do individual, family, and couples therapy and psychological testing and evaluations, which I have been doing since 1985. I have passed on the Clinical Director responsibilities at those programs and am now exclusively dedicated to my private practice. Primarily I want to have more time to do Psychological and Neuropsychological Evaluations.
Throughout my career, I have found that delving into what makes us tick is the essence of effective treatment and therapy. Continuing to work as a therapist and staying abreast of the most recent therapeutic modalities as well as the more current testing options has made my work more effective and cogent. There is no point of providing therapy or treatment if the cause and history and chemistry of a malady is not correctly identified.
A psychological evaluation is not just a list of test results. To get to the deeper reasons for difficulties, one must start with a deep caring for the clients they work with, and then develop a trusting relationship with the client to allow an assessment interview that reaches all aspect of the person’s life, including relationships, attachments, history, possible trauma, and how all of that combines with the results of the objective measures designed to help us see ourselves better.
I trained as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at the same time I worked on my Ph.D. as a Psychologist. As a result, I am sensitive to the Systems Theory that drives marriage and family work. I do a Family Genogram as a part of every psychological evaluation I conduct and interview both the client and their significant others: parents, family, siblings, spouse, or life partners as needed. I administer the tests and interviews with care and support, and when all the information has been collected, I combine my experience, systems view, attachment oriented, clinically trained abilities to formulate not labels, but the “what is going on” for each person. I find each evaluation is like solving a mystery that creates the foundation for “Why?” and allows us to find out the “How” to help the person find themselves in the truest and most real sense and progress on the journey of opening the doors of their future.
